CRIPPS PLEDGES FUNDS FOR TULLY SHOWGROUNDS & MPC

Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, has announced the LNP will provide funding for two important projects in Tully that will continue to modernise the face of the town and address a legacy issue impacting on the local community.

Mr Cripps said if he is re-elected as part of an LNP Government, he would deliver funding for an exciting project to redevelop the Tully Showgrounds, which is a hub for many community activities for the Tully and district community.

“I am absolutely delighted to be able to make this commitment that if I am re-elected, the LNP will provide funding in partnership with the Cassowary Coast Regional Council, to help modernise the Tully Showgrounds,” Mr Cripps said.

“Being born and raised in Tully, I know that the showgrounds are not only home to the famous Tully Show, but also the mighty Tully Tigers senior and junior rugby league clubs and a range of other sporting and community events throughout the year.”

“The Council has developed conceptual plans for the redevelopment, including change rooms, food and bar service areas and of course seating, but there will be opportunities for the local community to have their say on the final plans and designs for the new facilities.

Mr Cripps said if re-elected, the LNP would also provide funding to fix the inadequate air-conditioning system at the Multi-Purpose Centre at Tully State High School.

“The MPC at Tully State High School is a great facility for students and the local community, but since it opened, there has been an ongoing problem with the air-conditioning, which has limited its use and the success of events held there during warmer months,” he said.

“This is a legacy issue that so far, no one has wanted to address, but I have been listening to locals who have told me that local events at the MPC would be much more successful if the air-conditioning could cope better in hot weather and with big crowds.

“As a former student of Tully State High School, I know the students would also appreciate the MPC being properly air-conditioned and so I am keen to deliver the best possible learning environment for the school.”
