CONSULTATION ON FUTURE RECREATIONAL BOATING FACILITIES

Marine facilities

Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, has encouraged local communities to provide feedback to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR) as part of its planning for future projects through the Marine Infrastructure Fund.

Mr Cripps said DTMR was seeking feedback from local stakeholder groups and the wider community to assist in identifying areas of need for improved recreational boating facilities across Queensland, including in the Hinchinbrook electorate.

“There’s no doubt recreational boating in Queensland is extremely popular and the pressure on boating infrastructure continues to increase as the population grows, so there is a lot of demand for better infrastructure” said Mr Cripps.

“While projects within the Marine Infrastructure Fund have been prioritised and are now in the planning phase for the 2016-17 financial year, feedback is being sought to identify projects for the 2017–18 period and beyond” he said.

“There is a huge recreational boating community in Hinchinbrook electorate – from communities on Townsville’s Northern Beaches, in the Herbert River district and across the Cassowary Coast Region – it’s very much part of our way of life”.

Mr Cripps said in assessing potential projects, DTMR considered a range of criteria, including facility location, environmental constraints, a balance been urban and rural communities, access to remote areas, cost and construction feasibility.

Individuals and groups can provide feedback or have their say by accessing the survey at www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au, or by contacting:
