LNP COMMITTED TO TACKLING ICE IN HINCHINBROOK

Tackling ICE off our streets

Communities in the Hinchinbrook electorate will be made safer under an LNP Government through the implementation of a comprehensive plan to tackle Queensland’s ice epidemic.

Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, said the LNP would implement a five-point action plan including proactive crime prevention, enhanced drug addiction services and stronger law enforcement.

“The LNP is committed to fighting the manufacture, sale and use of drugs in our local communities, to help make Queensland a safer place to live, work and raise a family” said Mr Cripps.

“The widespread and increased use of the drug known as ice is a real concern – it can tear families and friends apart and sadly it is a real problem in local communities across Queensland” he said.

“The LNP takes this issue seriously and is determined to tackle the issue with a targeted and comprehensive strategy that complements the Federal Government’s National Ice Action Plan”.

“The former LNP Government already has a strong track record on this issue, implementing tough law and order measures including increased policing and tougher penalties for offenders”.

However, Mr Cripps the LNP also enhanced addiction treatment services and would continue to work with organisations to support the most vulnerable victims of drag abuse and crime.

The LNP’s five-point plan to take ice off our streets includes:

  1. Dob in a dealer

$1 million to encourage the community to report any information to Crime Stoppers Queensland.

  1. Keeping bikie clubhouses closed

The LNP has a proven record of closing down criminal motorcycle gang clubhouses through its strong action to tackle criminal gangs that are involved in illicit drug trafficking.

  1. Drug addiction services

Work with the Federal Government to deliver more treatment services, particularly in rural and regional Queensland, and targeted support through Queensland Health.

  1. Law enforcement co-operation

Ensure State and Commonwealth law enforcement agencies share intelligence and resources to tackle ICE supply and distribution across Queensland.

  1. Increased prevention

Target specific high-risk demographics through community awareness programs.
