BOHLEVALE STATE SCHOOL TO GET TRAFFIC SAFETY UPGRADE UNDER LNP
Categories: Electorate
Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, has announced that a new LNP Government will invest $2 million into a traffic management and road safety project at Bohlevale State School.
Mr Cripps said the LNP commitment would seek to improve the flow of traffic around the busy Bohlevale State School at drop-off and pick-up times, which had long been a safety concern.
“Additional car parking is required at Bohlevale State School to accommodate the significant influx of traffic at these peak times, including school bus movements” said Mr Cripps.
“More land is required for car parking and one solution would be to redevelop vacant council land on Gatwick Street in Burdell, which is currently being used informally as a pick-up area” he said.
“If the LNP is successful at the coming state election, I will be seeking to work with the Townsville City Council to find a solution to the widespread community concern about this issue”.
“I have discussed this problem with school staff, the parents of students and residents adjacent to the school and I will make this issue a priority if the LNP is successful on 25 November”.
Mr Cripps said Bohlevale State School was a large state primary school which is currently subject to an enrolment management plan, meaning it has large number of students enrolled.
“I have been present on several occasions at drop-off and pick-up time and seen for myself that the traffic management arrangements can be a nightmare for staff, parents and students”.
“There are safety issues which impact on Bohlevale School Road, Garland Road, Gatwick Street, Griffey Street and the Bruce Highway which need to be addressed as soon as possible”.
“The LNP is putting $2 million on the table to help find a solution to this problem, because my focus is on better and safer community infrastructure on Townsville’s Northern Beaches”.
“While there has been some works done on Garland Road to better accommodate and improve the safety of pedestrians, these won’t address the problem with the number of vehicles”.
Mr Cripps said it was important for the Bohlevale State School community and residents living the near the school, for improvements to the traffic management arrangements in the area.
