LNP TO FIGHT CRIME IN HINCHINBROOK WITH CCTV GRANT

An LNP Government will help take up the fight to crime rates in Ingham and the Herbert River district, with a $200,000 investment in CCTV cameras to assist police to identify offenders.

Hinchinbrook MP, Andrew Cripps, said if the LNP is successful at the state election, the Hinchinbrook Shire Council would secure a $200,000 grant to install additional CCTV cameras.

Mr Cripps said the council and local police had provided feedback that existing CCTV cameras had been useful in successfully providing information that led to the identification of offenders.

“This Hinchinbrook Shire Council CCTV Community Security Project would be a step forward in tackling crime, particularly property crime, in Ingham and the Herbert River district” said Mr Cripps.

“The serious issue of crime rates, especially youth crime, is not just a problem in Townsville, it’s a problem for communities across North Queensland and we can’t ignore it locally” he said.

“Youth crime and property crime, including motor vehicle theft, is an issue in the Hinchinbrook Shire and one of the most effective tools in terms of identifying offenders is CCTV footage”.

“The Hinchinbrook Shire Council has indicated that it wishes to support our local police as much as possible to catch the criminals and establishing more CCTV systems can be a big help”.

Mr Cripps said the council was also considering investing in mobile CCTV units, which would be able to be deployed in various locations identified as local ‘crime hot spots’, such as boat ramps.

“Fighting crime and keeping communities safe is a priority for the LNP and $200,000 of additional CCTV cameras across high-need areas in the Hinchinbrook Shire will support that goal”.

“The LNP’s tough on crime polices and strong youth justice reforms need to be supported by police with modern tools and equipment – so the criminals are on notice, we will be able to see you!”

Mr Cripps said as a resident of Ingham, he was concerned by reported incidents of crime in the Herbert River district and he was determined to support the effort of council and the police.
